Rescued House – Part Two

In August 2016, my storage unit flooded when areas of Louisiana received over 25 inches of rain within 24 hours.  I was going to abandon the houses that sat in flood water for over a week, but my sister rescued them.

Rescued Houses – Part One

I was excited to paint these house, because they were interesting and unique.

Tailor Shop:  Yes, it needed a cooper roof.  I had trouble deciding on a color for the door, so I decided to let it stand out.

Bed and Breakfast:  I wanted my Bed and Breakfast house to have a white porch, but I didn’t want the house to be too dark or pink.  I wanted the roof to be a grayish blue.

Pickle Gap Village

Pickle Gap Village is located somewhere is Arkansas, near Conway I believe.  I had to stop there because of the name.  It was enjoyable and entertaining.

With a name like Pickle Gap, you would expect to find pickles every where.  Alas, pickle were only found in one barrel.  But, other interesting items were found.

Precious Moments Chapel

If you are ever near Carthage, MO, a stop at the Precious Moments Chapel is worth the visit.

Samuel J. Butcher the creator of the Precious Moment figurines journeyed through the United State in search for a location to place the chapel.  Once he found Carthage, MO, he knew, with the rolling hills, water stream, and caves, it would be a perfect location for the chapel.

Most of the painting were down at his home in the Philippines and brought to the Chapel via an UHaul.

Samuel Butcher painted the ceiling laying on a scaffold.

Rescued Houses – Part One

In August 2016, the storage unit where I kept my belonging flooded.  In those belonging was all my Christmas Village Plastercraft Houses.  Many of the houses, painted and unpainted, was either wet or underwater for about a week.  I was going to abandon them because I had no means of drying or cleaning them.  My sister, who showed up to help me salvage what belonging I could, insisted that I could not abandon my houses.

She took all the wet houses to her flooded house, unwrapped, cleaned, and let the houses dry out while her house was drying out.  After everything was dried, she carefully packed the house.  In June, I was able to retrieve the unpainted houses from her.  She did an amazing job.  All three of these houses have minor damage, but no house is perfect.  Of course, the inserts with suggested painting is gone, so I choose the colors myself.

These are the first three houses that she recovered that I have painted.

Don’s Donuts:  I decided I would paint it the colors of the best donut shop, Krispy Kreme.  The car had to be blue.

Bowling Alley:  I thought this building needed to be bright and metallic.

Toy Maker:  Deciding the colors were a little difficult.  What colors would Santa have on his shop?

There will be more houses to come.  I usually paint three at a time.

Klingon Adventure

During Kur’Den’s recent travels through the Universe, he used his communicator to send back fascinating images from his adventure.   Below are the photos:

Since Kur’Den’s day of birth was about to be recognized on Stardate 70989, I remotely accessed his Klingon log file, a.k.a. Facebook, and obtained an official picture of him.

I then proceeded to combined the adventure pictures with the official picture.

Meet Kur’Den, Tuq BelmoH Yotlh!  Sorry, Captain Kur’Den.

Arbor Day Farms

I finally got to visit Arbor Day Farms.  It has been on my stop list during previous travel adventures, but something always happened and I had to readjust my plans.  Now, my only regret is that I was not able to spend more time here.  A few hours does not allow you to explore the entire area.

Arbor Day Farms is the birthplace of Arbor Day.  Julius Sterling Morton moved to Nebraska in 1954 and decided to start planting trees.

The Archway

Along I-80, in about the middle of Nebraska, crossing the Interstate, erected high, stands the Archway.

Inside the Archway is a museum that covers the history of the Great Plains of Nebraska. From the settlers, to building of the interstate, through today’s modern history.

Outside on the west side, is a maze that resembles a fort. It probably depicts Fort Kearney, which is only a few miles away.

Across the bridge there are sculptures of bison and walking trails that will take you to Kearney or the Fort Kearney State Historical Park.
